Herpes Zoster

NB-00X, co-treatment for Herpes Zoster:

Based on demonstrated efficacy against herpes in a broad range of in vitro and clinical studies, NanoBio proposes that a topical nanoemulsion used as a co-treatment with systemic anti-virals will reduce viral load.  This should result in reducing the severity of the attack and may also help prevent or reduce the severity of the post-herpetic neuralgia phase.

About Herpes Zoster:

Shingles is a disease caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.  Caused by the same Varicella zoster virus that causes chickenpox, shingles (also called herpes zoster) occurs most most commonly in older people.  After you have had chickenpox, the virus remains inactive in your body in certain nerves.

If the virus does become active gain, usually later in life, it causes shingles.  Overall, approximately 20% of those who have had chickenpox as children develop shingles at some time in their lives.  The CDC reports that between 600,000 and one million Americans are diagnosed with shingles each year.

Once activated, the virus travels along the path of a nerve to the skin's surface, where it causes shingles.

Doctors typically prescribe oral antiviral medications such as acyclovir (Zovirax), valacyclovir (Valtrex) or famciclovir (Famvir) to treat shingles — preferably beginning within 48 to 72 hours of the first sign of the shingles rash.
