About Acne:
Nearly 17 million Americans suffer from acne, one of the most common of all skin diseases - effecting 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 24. Acne continues into adulthood for 18% of the population, with 6% more females experiencing chronic outbreaks than males.
Acne develops when skin pores become blocked by sebum (oil). Sebum accumulates inside the pore and becomes infected with bacteria. When the infection remains under the skin surface, it develops into a whitehead. When the infection partly reaches the skin surface and changes color, it develops into a blackhead.
Numerous treatments for acne are available. These preparations can be effective in varying degrees, but none have been proven to be uniformly effective and without side effects. |
