James R. Baker, Jr., MD - Executive Chairman & CEO

Dr. Baker is the inventor of the platform technology, founder of NanoBio and an internationally recognized expert in immunology and biologic nanotechnology.  Dr. Baker invented the NanoStat technology at the University of Michigan, where he is the Ruth Dow Doan Professor of Medicine and Head of Allergy and Immunology at the Medical School. He is also the Director of the University of Michigan Nanotechnology Institute, which is focused on the use of nanotechnology in biomedical applications. He is one of three editors of the National Nanotechnology Initiative’s Research Directives, and Chairs the Nanotechnology for Medicine and Biology study section at National Institutes of Health (“NIH”).  Dr. Baker is a board-certified internist, allergist and immunologist.

 

David Peralta - Vice President, Chief Operating & Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Peralta joined NanoBio in February 2006, and is directly responsible for all of the company's business and finance-related activities.  Prior to joining the company, Mr. Peralta most recently served as vice president and chief financial officer for Arbortext, Inc., a venture-backed enterprise software company.  While at Arbortext, Mr. Peralta played a key role in transforming the company to a high-growth software business, which ultimately led to Arbortext being acquired in 2005 for $195 million in cash. Before joining Arbortext, Peralta served for six years as the chief financial officer of Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDII), a publicly-held software company.  Mr. Peralta directed all finance and investor relations activities at Mechanical Dynamics during the company's initial public offering in 1996, and up through the sale of the company in 2002. Mr. Peralta is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Michigan.

 

Lyou-fu Ma. PharmD, PhD – Sr. V.P of Development


Dr. Ma has 17 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining NanoBio in July 2007, Dr. Ma was a Senior Director at Pfizer Global Research and Development where she held the position of Development Team Leader in the Pain Therapy Area. In this leadership role, she was responsible for setting the strategic and operational direction for numerous compounds in development and was the single point of accountability for each of her development teams. In her tenure with Pfizer she has also led early and late stage drug development teams in the Neurosciences, Inflammation and Cardiovascular therapeutic areas. Upon completion of graduate school, she joined the Pharmaceutics group at the Parke-Davis/Warner-Lambert facility in Morristown, NJ. She joined Janssen Research Technology Center (J & J) in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1993, where she held the position of Senior Scientist and was responsible for formulation development, scale-up, manufacturing and early analytical testing of rapid-melt dosage forms.

 

Mary R. Flack, MD - Vice President Clinical Research

Dr. Flack has nearly 20 years of clinical research experience at the NIH and in the pharmaceutical industry.  Before joining NanoBio in 2002, Dr. Flack was Clinical Director of Endocrinology and Women’s Health Care at Pfizer (formerly Parke-Davis/Warner Lambert) where she was responsible for clinical development of pharmaceutical products for osteoporosis, hormone replacement therapy, fertility and contraception. She directed the completion of multiple clinical studies (Phases I-IV), leading to four approved NDA submissions, and has extensive experience with three different divisions of the FDA, including dermatology, endocrinology and reproductive health.

 

Stephen (Steve) Gracon, DVM– Vice President of Regulatory Affairs


Steve Gracon, joins NanoBio with 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry at Parke-Davis, Pfizer, Amgen and Baxter. Steve brings a diversity to NanoBio having spent 8 years in preclinical pathology and experimental toxicology, more than a decade in clinical research during which he lead the development of the tacrine (Cognex) the first drug approved for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease before moving to Regulatory Affairs gaining both International and US Regulatory experience. Steve comes to NanoBio with a unique combination of experiences with small and large molecules and plasma derived products. He returns to Ann Arbor with great enthusiasm for the scientific community and the entrepreneurial spirit offered within the team at NanoBio.

 

Joyce Sutcliffe, PhD - Vice President of Research

Joyce Sutcliffe, has over 26 years of experience in antibiotic discovery and development at Pfizer and Abbott and most recently, as Vice President of Biology and Chief Research Scientist at Rib-X Pharmaceuticals.  Dr. Sutcliffe has done extensive work on the discovery and design of new antibiotics and is an internationally recognized expert on bacterial resistance.  Her experience in drug development spans from early stages of development through regulatory approvals.  She has been a chief contributor to the intellectual property at both Pfizer and Rib-X as evidenced by authorship on patents and manuscripts as well as representation at conferences. She has a long-standing interest in vaccines, having cloned a major porin protein from E. coli K1 for use in a subcellular vaccine.

 

John Coffey - Vice President of Business Development

Mr. Coffey has extensive experience in sales, sales management, and brand development.  Prior to joining NanoBio, he was a member of the orthopedic implant products division of Codman and Shurtleff (a Johnson and Johnson Company) where he served in sales roles including Field Salesman, Sales Training Manager, Division Manger, and National Sales Manager.  Later he co-founded Great Lakes Orthopedics which distributed orthopedic implants over a three state area.  After successful sale of that company, he co-founded Access Computer Products.  He designed, implemented and managed sales, marketing and distribution action plan that achieved annual growth rates that exceeded 35% over 10 consecutive years.  He joined NanoBio assuming Business Development responsibility in 2001.
